Slave Biographies received initial funding in 2011 from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and their new Bridging Cultures Initiative. Since 1965, the NEH has worked to serve and strengthen our republic by promoting excellence in the humanities and conveying the lessons of history to all Americans. Their Bridging Cultures Initiative expands on that mission by promoting projects that work to build international communities of collaboration and scholarship.
